Quick overview of the Enneagram types and their basic traits
- Enneagram One: Main fear is being corrupted, overly focused on being ethical as a result. Wants to be above criticism and to avoid being blamed. Wants to be consistent with their moral values and wants to maintain integrity. 1w9 and 1w2 are the wings of this type. Goes to Four in stress and Seven in growth.
- Enneagram Two: Main fear is being unlovable, they are often people pleasers and squash their own needs for the sake of others. They are usually genuinely caring individuals, but at their worst can feel entitled to things because they help their community. Needs to be needed. 2w1 and 2w3 are the wings of this type. Goes to Eight in stress and Four in growth.
- Enneagram Three: Main fear is being invaluable and worthless, so they are generally competitive and seeks attention. Wants to distinguish themselves from other people. This type is at risk for losing themselves because of their constantly searching to be of worth and for their value. At their worst, can become vindictive, jealous, and betray others to win. 3w2 and 3w4 are the wings of this type. Goes to Nine in stress and Six in growth.
- Enneagram Four: Main fear is never finding themselves and never having any personal significance in the world. Can often feel "alien like", and feels misunderstood because of this. Focused on their flaws more than the general population. When unhealthy, they can become self-destructive, shut out loved ones, and are likely to suffer an emotional breakdown. 4w3 and 4w5 are the wings for this type. Goes to Two in stress and One in growth.
- Enneagram 5: Main fear is being useless and incompetent, they want to acquire knowledge so they can figure out the world around them. They are drawn to the darker areas of life-to them, investigating these things will help them overcome their basic fear. Can become eccentric and nihilistic. At their worst, they are in risk of having a psychotic break and also out of touch with reality. 5w4 and 5w6 are the wings for this type. Goes to Seven in stress and Eight in growth.
- Enneagram Six: Main fear is having no support system and being without reassurance, they are often cautious and anxious as a result, although counterphobic sixes can be defiant and rebellious like enneagram eights. Wants to plan for situations that might not even happen because they feel as though they cannot handle life on their own. Can be VERY loyal to systems and to their beliefs. They are also very loyal to those they love, hanging around for a lot longer than most people would. At their worst, they can become voilate, feeling persecuted, hysterical, and are suspectible to paranoia. 6w5 and 6w7 are the wings of this type. Goes to Three in stress and Nine in growth.
- Enneagram Seven: Main fear is missing out and being deprived, they have a tendency to run away from their feelings. Often free-spirited and extroverted, they want to live their life to the fullest. Has a tendency to be scatterbrained and not know what to do with themselves. Sevens are naturally upbeat people and don't like to take themselves too seriously. At their worst, they can become histronic, be overly impulsive, become manic, go into mood swings, are suspectible to addictions, and sadly, overdoses. 7w6 and 7w8 are the wings for this type. Goes to One in stress and Five in growth.
- Enneagram Eight: Main fear is being controlled and not being in control of their own destiny, they can be confrontational and have trouble with being vulnerable with others. Are often protective of those they love, but can be unfairly domineering. Wants to eliminate weakness within themselves so they don't have to rely on anyone else. They have enormous willpower that they either be used for good or bad. When used for good, they are capable of being heroic and natural leaders. At their worst, they can be bullies, become delusional about their own powers, immoral, unable to back down, and can even be murderous. 8w7 and 8w9 are the wings of this type. Goes to Five in stress and Two in growth.
- Enneagram Nine: Main fear is being seperated from their enviroment, they are often peacemakers. Desires to have inner stability and to have everything go without conflict. Often retreats to their own internal fantasies because they are out of touch with their own energies. They are often called the crown of the enneagram. They often do not have their own sense of identity, and asserting themselves terrifies them. Just like 2's, they can be people pleasers and have trouble saying no. Wants to bring people together and to find common ground with others. At their worst, they have the ability to completely abandon themselves, repress themselves, become depersonalized and disassociated, and can even develop multiple personalities. 9w1 and 9w8 are the wings for this type. Goes to Six in stress and Three in growth.
